GoPro (this is GoPro 5, but the 6 and 7 are pretty much the same with software and user friendly wise).
I just cant say enough bad about you.
Images from the left:
1: It was on, rebooted a lot of times, every time this happened.
2: Go figure.
3: Yea, no… It actually contained 100k+ of images, showing up a few minutes later.
4: The not uncommon waiting animation.
5: App asking me if i want to discard my edit, however not giving the option anywhere to save my edit.
6: App having to reconnect to the camera if you accidentally hit the home button.
Ba far the worst is that is always seem to find a way to be out of battery. I might put it in the charger, the lights turn on and ill leave it there. Then when i come to use it ill find out that it is out of power. Seem that you have to check in on it and see if it is actually still charging. Because it can stop after a minute, or it can charge fully. This is with all chargers i have tried with it. Note that it does not come with anything but a USB-C lead, so it should really take whatever USB standard amperage you throw at it. It does not, and in some cases (1A car-chargers and power banks) it wont charge at all.
If it is not the charging that has stopped unprovokedly. Then you can bet your glutes that some button has been pressed inside your pocket and the GoPro has started filming. Turns out that if you press the big button (the one with the red dot) the camera starts filming, EVEN IF IT IS TURNED OFF prior to pressing the button. It then keeps taking a 4k recording of the inside of your pocket until all power is out. Nice.
If you for some reason get to use your camera once you reach a nice something to take a picture of, then make sure to never use the “hold button down to take a series of photos” mode. If you take more than about 30 images in a row, the camera will say “saving” and be locked up for 30 min to an hour. When finished it will have used a substantial amount of battery.
And then there is the fact that the LCD and digitiser can not be turned of. That is ok if you are indoors in dry and perfect conditions, but this camera is intended for use in water. That is not just in moist conditions, its actually supposed be working fine even if fully submerged, down to a few meters even. Have you ever tried using a mobile touch-screen even with a little rain on the screen? Yea, point made. Now: there is actually an option to use the two buttons for operating along with the tiny front LCD. Just like on the old GoPros. However this does not disable the digitiser. So for use in water the LCD is totally doing its own thing. And the problem goes beyond that. In some conditions, i.e. when running or yea, swimming, it is hard to not touch the touch-screen accidentally, and fuck shit up as a consequence. How hard could it be to add a “hold both buttons for 10sec to disable touch-screen” option in the settings.
This brings us to the next point. How arrogant a company GoPro is. They know (from their forum) that a lot of users find the LCD thing to be a problem. Their reply is that “there is an option to set the LCD to go black after 1 minute of not being used.” Completely ignoring the actual problem which is clearly stated several times in the tread. And if this was a hard thing to implement i would get it. If the userbase was requesting them to implement a nuclear reactor to have eternal battery life, i would get why they would ignore it. But this is a company that waste hours upon hours implementing speech recognition and “Quik.” Both gimmick features that are incredibly unreliable or slow or wasteful of battery life. And for “Quik” that is both the GoPro battery and the phone battery. Also in addition it hogs a lot of storage space on the phone.
Then there is the app. Oh, i just cant even. It has so much potential, but it sucks so badly. It is like trying to get hardware to work with Windows 98 when there is no proper drivers available. You just want to find the sledgehammer and get some of that adrenaline out.
The app uses notification banners for ads ffs. Every now and then you get GoPro App: “This weekend there is a 20% disc…” Really? You pay premium dollar for a product that is marketed as a premium dollar product, and they hore up the thin with advertisements?
Please save yourself the trouble and buy something else.
